D.J. O'Dell

D.J. O'Dell, 84, of Fort Gibson, was born March 28, 1940, to Richard and Walsie (McNinch) Clark in Muskogee, OK and met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, December 27, 2024. D.J. graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the Class of 1958. She married Johnny Algernon O’Dell, Jr. on January 18, 1969, and they spent 54 years together before his passing on July 24, 2023. D.J.’s passion was loving and taking care of children. She was a substitute teacher at Fort Gibson Public Schools for many years, creating many bonds with students. D.J. loved to attend sporting and band events, socializing and supporting the kids. In her later years, D.J. opened her home to continue caring for children, playing an influential role for many, especially her grandchildren. She loved quality time with her family. D.J. was always ready for a road trip to Coweta or Louisiana, creating many memories. When she was home, you could find her often caring for her flower beds and enjoying being outside. She was an avid member of Fellowship Bible Church and enjoyed fellowship with her church family often. D.J. didn’t know a stranger. She had a fiery, spunky, and strong spirit, she was quick-witted, but had a heart of gold. She will be missed by all. D.J. was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny A. O’Dell; her parents; and her siblings, Delores Cheek, Dee Mon Eller, Donnie Butler, Dewey Clark, and Athel Clark. Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Mike and wife Kim O’Dell of Gonzales, LA, and Pat and wife Ashley O’Dell of Coweta, OK; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Aubrey, Cora Grace, Molly Kate, and Cole; her sister, Darlene Wilson of Oklahoma City, OK; extended family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions to honor D.J. to Fellowship Bible Church, 1411 East Poplar Street, Fort Gibson, OK 74434. A viewing will be held Monday, December 30, 2024, at Fellowship Bible Church in Fort Gibson from 11AM to 12:30PM. A celebration of her life will be held 1PM Monday, December 30, 2024, at Fellowship Bible Church with Reverend Steve Dennis and Pastor Don Blankenship officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Citizens Cemetery in Fort Gibson with Brian O’Dell, Kyle O’Dell, Alan O’Dell, Dakota O’Dell, Cameron O’Dell, Ben Harris, and ST Macklin serving as casket bearers.
