David Lee Long

David Lee Long, 75, was born March 28, 1948, in Albion, Nebraska, to William and Viola (Drake) Long and peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023, in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, with his loving family by his side. After high school, David was called to duty by the United States Army and served his country from October 1967 to July 1969. David then worked most of his life as a carpenter and could build anything. He especially enjoyed building playhouses, furniture, and many other things for his children and grandchildren. David enjoyed playing poker and other games with his family. The “peckerwood” was famous for making up his own rules in order to win. He also loved keeping his yard and pool beautiful. David was a patient, kind, and forgiving man. No matter how busy he was, he always stopped what he was doing to sit and visit with anyone who came by. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace Captain Insano! We will see you again! David is lovingly survived by his daughters, Angie Long of Okay, Oklahoma; Sheri “Sher-Bear” Warren and husband Mike of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; Traci Davis and husband Tim of Okay, Oklahoma; grandchildren Hali David, Tiffany Milligan, Lacey Milligan, Cody Long and wife Tiffany, Brooke Long and husband JoJo, Summer Melton and husband Dustin, Wade Davis and wife Tori; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was also an honorary Papa to many. David is preceded in death by his “Sunshine,” Sharon Jean; his parents; several brothers and sisters; his mother-in-law, Alma; and his brother-in-law, Ricky Dean. A visitation will be held Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson with family receiving friends from 3PM to 5PM. A celebration of David’s life will be 10AM, Monday, April 24, 2023, at Citizens Cemetery Pavilion with Sawyer Dennis officiating. Military honors will be observed. Wade Davis, Xavier David, Dustin Melton, Joseph Cardona, Mike Warren, and Cody Long will serve as casket bearers. Zayne David, Jaxen Milligan, Elijah Milligan, and Izaiah David will serve as honorary casket bearers.
