Dennis Howard Garrison O.D. 61, of Fort Gibson, OK was born August 27, 1958 in Muskogee, OK to Dennis and Helen (Howard) Garrison and peacefully passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in Tulsa, OK with his loving family by his side. Dennis resided in Tahlequah OK while attending Northeastern College of Optometry and moved to Fort Gibson where he owned and operated his Optometry practice for 34 years from 1985 to present. He married the love of his life, Melissa Katherine Bell on August 27, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dennis was a member of the America Optometric Association. He was always charitable at giving to the community, such as giving free eye exams for children. Children were very close to his heart. He had a love for sail boating, gunsmithing, shooting his guns and cars. He enjoyed working out and living a healthy lifestyle. His dream for retirement was to spend time with Melissa sailing the world in a new sailboat, especially the tropical regions. Dennis was very proud to be a member of the Cherokee Tribe. He is lovingly survived by his wife Melissa of the home and his beloved cat Sadie; his mother, Helen Garrison; brother, William Garrison; nephew, Wesley Garrison; extended family, Roma Carty, Jennifer and Dylan Hunter, Pam and Gary Rains, Jodie Stewart, Stephen and Casey Stewart, Tim and Sarah Battenfield, Russell and Ginger Thouvenel, Tim and Danisha Thouvenel, David and Julie Sevier, Joey and Theresa Leep, Darren Leep, Andy and Wendy Leep, Lisa Leep, Jim Hunzeker, Rusty Hunzeker, David Hunzeker and Sam and Jaime Dobbins. Dennis was preceded in death by his father. Viewing for Dennis will be from 12PM-5PM Tuesday, November 3, 2019 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home, Fort Gibson, OK. A Celebration of Dennis’ Life will be 7PM Tuesday, November 3, 2019 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Gibson, OK. Dennis’ wishes were that his final resting place be at sea after a final sailboat ride. His family will be honoring his wishes with scattering of his ashes at a later date.
