Ellis Wayne Woods

Ellis Wayne Woods of Boynton, OK was born July 20, 1948 to Ellis James and Maxine (Slavens) Woods and peacefully passed away February 3, 2024 in Tulsa, OK. Wayne was born in Coweta, OK and later moved to Boynton. He grew up in the country and walked back and forth to school and then walked his way to Miss Evelyn Lavonne Phillips in 1965. Wayne then married the love of his life, Evelyn, on December 30, 1968. He enlisted in the United States Army on May 16, 1968 in California and proudly served until March 25, 1970 before being honorably discharged. By the grace of God and Wayne’s true grit he was able to live a life of hunting, fishing, and loving every day. He ran with Norman Dean Moats, his right-hand man, while along the way showing John Moats, also known as Big John, the ropes. Wayne made a living as a welder and a carpenter while also putting in time at the cannery and working for Muskogee County District 3. While retired, Wayne loved garage sales and flea markets. He also enjoyed working on lawn mowers with his side kick Savanna, also known as Syvanny. He gave Baler, known as Wire, and Roper, known as The Great Rope, a hard time and his love. He loved his visits from the Wino (Norman Moats) and if you knew Wayne at all he loved to tell a good story. He will be dearly missed. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Wayne Woods; daughter, Deanna Woods; and sister, Barbara Johnson. Wayne is lovingly survived by his wife, Evelyn Lavonne Woods of the home; son, Danny Ray Woods; grandson, Jeffery Greenlee; great grandsons, Jeffery Greenlee Jr., Daniel Greenlee, Roper Russell, and Baler Russell; sisters, Shirley Cline and husband Steven, Peggy Sprinkles and husband George, Debbie Allison and husband Gary, and Ethel Stockstill; brothers, Winson Woods, and Jerry Woods and wife Lisa; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. A viewing for Wayne will be 12PM-7PM, Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson. Wayne’s celebration of life will be held 9:30AM, Friday, February 9, 2024 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Gibson with Pastor Frank Cox officiating. Donnie McClellan, Rick Reed, Seth Russell, Norman Moats, Everett Lang, and Leslie Howard will serve as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers are John Moats and T.J. Baker. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
