Freda Joyce Osburn

Freda Joyce (Pitman) Osburn, 80, was born May 8, 1935 in Akins, OK to Bill and Marie (Roberts) Pitman and received her eternal reward on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at her home in Fort Gibson with her family by her side. Freda grew up in Sallisaw and attended Sallisaw Schools. She continued her education earning an associate’s degree in college and started her career as a Social Worker for the Department of Human Services, a job she loved. Freda married Wayne W. Osburn on January 15, 1955 in Stilwell, OK, a marriage of 60 years four months and twelve days. She spent many hours volunteering for different organizations and her church, Fort Gibson First Baptist Church. Freda was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 20 of Fort Gibson. She was an excellent cook and an avid reader. She enjoyed family reunions and the Holidays when all her family came home. Freda loved doing for others. She and Wayne enjoyed visiting military and history museums. Her favorite past-time was to take long walks on the beach with her husband and family. Freda was preceded in death by her parents; William Pitman Jr. and Marie Roberts Moore, her step-father; Gregory Ruhl Moore, and her grandmother; Vivian Roberts. Freda is lovingly survived by her husband; Wayne of the home, daughters; Melissa Osburn Jackson and husband Donald of Muskogee, OK, and Karen Denise Osburn Hermes and husband Richard of Magnolia, TX, granddaughter; Jill Davis of Muskogee, OK, grandson; Nick Hermes of Oklahoma City, OK, great-granddaughter; Aubree Davis of Muskogee, OK, sisters; Wyota Maxwell, Viola Sutton, Elaine Wheeler and husband Jack, brothers;, Dean Moore and wife Miwako “Sam”, Randy Moore and wife Heather, half-brother; Don Pitman, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Freda’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association of Oklahoma 2448 E 81st St. Suite 3000 Tulsa, OK 74137 or online at alz.org/donate. The family would like to thank Elizabeth Mayes, and the nurses and staff at Hometown Hospice for the exceptional care, love and family support. A visitation will be held Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson with family receiving friends from 5PM-7PM. A celebration of life will be held Monday, June 1, 2015 at 10:30 AM in the Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Ellis and Pastor Danny Gandara officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery. Opal Chancellor, Helen Steele, Euleta Andrews, Jennifer Kourt, Marcella Kennemer and Ann Armstrong will serve as honorary pallbearers.
