John Reynolds Looper Jr.

John Reynolds Looper Jr, 78, was born October 31, 1936 in Webbers Falls, OK to John Reynolds Looper Sr. and Sue (Collins) Looper and passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at his home in Muskogee surrounded by his family. Marion Annette (Shinn) Looper, 75, was born February 9, 1939 in Oklahoma City, OK to Frank Shinn and Opal Shinn and passed away October 6, 2014 in Muskogee after a short illness. They are preceded in death by a sister; Robbie, brother-in-laws; Harvey & Luke and his mother Sue in 1992. John and Annette are survived by their daughters; Terry & husband Jeff, Sharon, Robbie and one Son; James. Grandsons; Ron & his wife Vern, Jay, Charles, David & his wife Rosa. Granddaughters; Jamie LeAnn & her husband Mark, Lauren Nicole. Great-granddaughter; Kiersten. Great-grandsons; Cameron, Christopher & Ransom. Sisters; Betty & Cokie, numerous nieces & nephews and many friends. Growing up in Warner, Ok. John helped his father in their grocery store in Gore, Ok. He played basketball in school, Annette was a cheerleader. In 1956 John married Marion Annette Shinn. He joined the Navy and they moved and lived in Hawaii where he received an honorable discharge after the death of his father. John was an avid OU football fan. He loved his job as a salesman in the grocery business. He never met a stranger. He retired from Griffin Grocery where he worked and played with his co-worker and friend D.C. Smith, they were a team. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, golf, and poker nights with the boys, Randy, Rick, Bill & Wilmar. John and Annette enjoyed camping, going to the casino, with John on the poker tables and mom on her penny machines. They loved life, each other, family & friends. Annette worked in the medical field and was part owner of the Red Barn with Paul Hensley and loved to cook. She always had extra cooked up for anymore who dropped in and for the friends us kids brought home. No one ever left hungry. She enjoyed visiting and spending time with her friends, Barbara Posey, Jerry Busby, Neva Green & Wanda Martin. She loved babies & eventually she decided to tend to children in their homes. In particular was Jake Hall, who was 6 weeks old and his mother Jennifer Hall never had a worry while Jake was in mom and dad’s care. They joined our family and Jake was an extended grandson and even Jennifer a daughter and sister. Although fighting a battle with cancer, John woke every morning with thanks and blessed to see another day, always with a smile and a positive attitude. With the help of Hospice of Cherokee staff. Amber, his right hand nurse. Nurses Jamie, Lindsey, and Laura in which he just adored and help with house chores, errands or just take a drive. His side kicks, son James family, friends, Boomer and Dusty. Dad was able to remain in his home where he passed away comfortable and content with family and friends. A memorial service celebrating the lives of John and Annette will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery Pavilion in Fort Gibson with Chaplain Keith Mings officiating.
