Johnny Lee Seward

Johnny Lee Seward was born in Muskogee, OK to John Claybourn and Billie Carol (Puckett) Seward. On August 20,2024, Johnny, in his own words, “moved on to greener pastures.” Johnny grew up in Muskogee and Fort Gibson and went on to graduate from Fort Gibson High School with the class of 1979. Two days after graduation he went to work at OG&E where some of his best memories and lifelong friends were made. At the same time, he was working at his family dairy. Johnny married his high school sweetheart, Susan Tolbert, on July 25th, 1981. To this union was born 4 beautiful children Seth, Lauren, Brooke, and Will (Boo). They loved to go on drives and take road trips to Galveston, Tx and recently celebrated 43 rewarding years together. As a dedicated husband and father, Johnny often came home after his 12 hour shifts to umpire wiffle ball games. His greatest passion came from farming and ranching where he felt great pride working alongside his dad and sons. He spent many hours on a tractor with a child or grandchild next to him. At the end of the day, he enjoyed watching the cattle graze while catching the sunset from the pasture. He also cherished the time he spent coaching baseball, and proudly spoke about his players. He truly considered them family. Ultimately, Johnny is known by all as someone who never met a stranger, gave everything to those who had nothing, and worked his hardest to be a great husband, father, and grandfather. To his children, he instilled the importance of looking someone in the eye and giving them a firm handshake; but most importantly he stressed the significance of putting God first. He is admired and respected by his family and countless friends. The day before he went to Heaven, he assured us he was happy and gave us a big smile. Johnny is survived by: His wife, Susan of Fort Gibson, OK. Two daughters: Lauren Johnson and husband Jordan of Fort Gibson, OK and Brooke Kidd and husband Brian of Tulsa, OK. One son: Will (Boo) Seward and wife Cortni of Fort Gibson, OK. Eight grandchildren: Ella Webster-Baker, Layton Seward, Brennan Wood Murphy, Clay Seward-Page, Brody Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Kingsley Kidd, and Bishop Kidd. One brother: Jeff Seward and wife Gail of Broken Arrow, OK. He was preceded in death by his son: Seth Seward, his parents, and his sister: Cheryl Seward Scott. Johnny was a previous board member for The Gospel Rescue Mission. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to them in his honor at give.grmok.org. A viewing will be 12:00PM to 7:00PM, Friday, August 23, 2024, at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Muskogee. A celebration of Johnny’s life will be 10:00AM Saturday, August 24, 2024, at New Community Church with Reverend Lester Beasley and Pastor Simeon Young officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Three Rivers Cemetery in Okay, OK with Jordan Johnson, Tony Horn, Darnell Walker, Colby Johnson, Conner Nichols, Bill Catron, Rick Nichols, and Timmy Gauntt serving as casket bearers. Lyle Tolbert, David Huggins, and Don Ford will serve as honorary casket bearers.
