Maggie Jane Oaks

Maggie Jane Oaks, 77, of Muskogee, Oklahoma was born April 30, 1947 to Nelson and Pauline (Yow) Wolfe in Porter, Oklahoma and entered eternal rest on March 19, 2025 in Muskogee, OK. Maggie graduated from Muskogee High School in 1966. Maggie had several jobs and thoughts about careers throughout her life. She eventually went on to pursue her passion for helping people. She earned an associate’s degree in nursing from the College of the Redwoods in California, embarking on a fulfilling career as a registered nurse. Maggie's dedication extended beyond the typical bedside manner; she embraced the challenges of a traveling nurse while experiencing life in diverse locations including Lawton, Oklahoma; Eureka, California; and the four corners of the U.S. Throughout her endeavors, she made friends like family and had a love for life that touched everyone she met. Maggie possessed a vibrant and endearing personality. She never met a stranger. She cherished time with family and quiet evenings spent enjoying a good movie from the comfort of her chair with her cherished dog, Pepper. Later in life, shopping trips provided opportunities for fun and making lasting memories with her niece, Christie, who was more of a best friend and a daughter. Maggie had a love for animals, particularly monkeys (whose television shows she enjoyed). She often would speak of her beloved childhood horse, Peso, who remained constant in her memories throughout her life. The memories of Peso brought her joy until her very last day, (pretty sure she thought she was going to be a trick rider). Maggie is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Nelson Ely Wolfe and Robin Wolfe; and her spouses, Herbert Hayes and Roger Dale Oaks. She is survived by her brother, William Wolfe of Muskogee, OK; sister-in-law, Debbie Worley of Muskogee, OK; nieces, Christie Leatherman and husband Jason of Muskogee, OK and Kelly Smith and husband Mark of Tulsa, OK; great-nephews, Dylan Durossette and wife Tabby of Muskogee, OK, Blaise Leatherman and wife Abby of Muskogee, OK, Dustin Leatherman and wife Ashley of Muskogee, OK; great-nieces, Miranda Leatherman and wife Tiffany of Muskogee, OK and Whittney Leatherman of Muskogee, OK; great-great-nephews, Kolten Leatherman of Muskogee, OK, Nolan Leatherman of Muskogee, OK, and Augustus Durossette of Muskogee, OK; great-great-niece, Kenzington Leatherman of Muskogee, OK; her lifelong friend, Joey Ryan; as well as many extended family and countless friends. Maggie loved and endeared all her neighbors and friends at Pleasant Valley Apartments where she embraced the last years of her life. A celebration of Maggie’s life will be 2PM, Friday, March 21, 2025 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Muskogee with Brother Justin Kinman officiating.
