Phillip 'Phil' Franklin Berry

Phillip (Phil) Franklin Berry was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on October 28, 1936, and passed away on June 3, 2024, at his home in Muskogee, OK. He attended Oklahoma State University. He and his brother owned and operated Berry Equipment Company in Muskogee, OK. Phil later owned Phil Berry Excavating until his retirement. When Phil found himself interested in something new, he didn’t just dabble—he immersed himself fully in whatever he was pursuing. Whether it was perfecting his golf swing, mastering the latest computer technology, or pursuing the tranquility of fishing and the thrill of hunting, he dedicated his time and energy wholeheartedly to each endeavor, showcasing an inspiring commitment to his pursuits. In addition to his lifelong hobbies and interests, Phil dedicated his time and energy to the service of the community. He served as a Captain for 16 years in the voluntary program that assisted the Sheriff’s Department in Muskogee County and retired in 1999 after over 25 years of total service. Preceding him in death are his daughter, Nicki Grace; parents, Sidney and Pearl Berry; brother, Kenneth Ray Berry; and companion, Lolita Stansifer. Phil is survived by his daughters, Debra Sasser of Calabash, NC, Michele and Larry Arnold of Muskogee, and Marla Kinsey of Calabash, NC; grandchildren, Nicki and Preston Sanders of Broken Arrow, OK, Cody Sasser of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Jessica Kinsey and John Galbraith of Tulsa, OK, and Jamie and Wes Ellis of Muskogee, OK; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; Patricia Berry of Muskogee, OK; along with nieces; nephews; lifelong friends; and his faithful furry friend, cat Gabby. The family would like to thank Elara Caring Hospice for their care and support during Phil’s illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muskogee Sheriff’s Department or the charity of one’s choice. A visitation for Phillip with family receiving friends will be 5:30PM-7:30PM, Friday, June 7, 2024 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Muskogee. A private family burial will be held at Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee, OK at a later date.
