Sammie N. Locust

Sammie Nadine (Harris) Locust, 74, of Fort Gibson, was born September 4, 1946 in Muskogee, OK to Billy and Wauhillau (Adkisson) Harris and peacefully passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 in Tulsa, OK with her loving family by her side. She received her formal education from the Fort Gibson Schools, and continued her education at Northeastern State University. After college, Sammie married the father of her children, Armil Joe Parker. She met and later married the love of her life, Leslie Locust, and they were married on March 1, 1996 in Fort Smith, AR. Sammie worked as a Librarian for twenty-seven years. She was a faithful member of the Old Mission Church in Fort Gibson. Her heart was in her church, but most of all, her Lord and Savior. Sammie played the piano at her church and loved singing for the Lord. She loved good gospel singings and she savored her relationship with her Heavenly Father. Sammie enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She collected cookbooks from her favorite chefs and loved to have get-togethers and stroll down memory lane. Sammie loved shopping, and collected anything Pioneer Woman made to cook with or to decorate her home with. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, and scrapbooking. She found great joy in her two dogs, Baby Doll and Sug, as well as keeping up with everyone on Facebook. Sammie was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Wauhillau Harris; her husband, Leslie Eugene Locust; brothers, Teddy Gene Harris, Reverend Rickey Joe Harris, Carson Leroy Harris and Bobby Wayne Harris; and a sister, Billy Arlene Disney. Sammie is survived by her son, Billy Ralph Parker and wife, Gay Lynn of Muskogee, OK; grandson, Matthew Joseph Edward Parker; sons, Joe Dale Parker and wife, Pat of Muskogee, OK; Leslie Locust, Jr. and wife, Jenell of Vian, OK; daughters, Suzie Wauhillau Guinn and husband, Rex of Stilwell, OK; Monica Taylor and husband, Danny of Schulter, OK; and Becky Dyer and husband, Mike “Mika” of Muldrow, OK; sister, Joy Ann Perry and husband, Don of Fort Gibson; brother, Jerry Dale Harris and wife, Nancy of Fort Gibson; sister-in-law, Thelma Harris of Fort Gibson; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who will miss her dearly. A visitation will be held Monday, September 6, 2021 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson with family receiving friends from 5PM-7PM. Services celebrating Sammie’s life is scheduled for 11:00AM, Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Old Mission Church in Fort Gibson with Pastor Jerry Stevens and Pastor Marty Jones officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at 1:00PM in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Rex Guinn, Liz Harris Jones, Bobby Harris, Les Locust, Jr., Charlie Disney, Landon Elkins and Jimmy Parker serving as casket bearers. Special honorary casket bearer will be James Robert Harris. The family of Sammie Locust would like to invite everyone after the committal service to come by the Frank Gladd American Legion Post #20, 201 Southeast Railroad Street, Fort Gibson, OK for lunch and fellowship.
