Betty Sue Dukes

Betty Sue Dukes, age 79 August 1st, 1942 - April 17th, 2022 Betty was born in Talihina, Oklahoma, where she grew up, attended school, and met and married Charles Dukes, Jr. They went on to have four children together, whom she worked hard for, and loved unconditionally until her last breath. Betty lived in numerous towns, all in Oklahoma, making her a “True Okie.” She finally settled in Fort Gibson, OK in 1976, where she spent the rest of her days, and made numerous friends, and enjoyed the company of loved ones more than anything else. Betty was a kind, gentle soul, and made all who entered her home feel welcome, loved, and cared for; she was someone you couldn't help but love. While she held a job at Wal-Mart for nearly 20 years, her most remarkable job was being a mother, which was the building block for every choice she made. Betty was a wonderful mother, loved God, her family and friends, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and making beautiful memories with them. She loved shopping, eating out, picnics, trips to the zoo and amusement parks - the ferris wheel was her favorite ride - but above all those, was flea markets and garage sales! Finding a good deal was her specialty, and she enjoyed looking all day if she was able. Betty broke many hearts when she departed her life here, on Easter Sunday, April 17th, 2022. She was completely surrounded by those she loved when she passed, holding her hands and assuring her she was immensely loved, and would be greatly missed. Betty is survived by her children, Henry Charles Dukes, III, Michelle Dukes, and Kevin Dukes; her sisters, Midge Blue and Shirley Owens; six grandchildren, Christian Dukes, Coby Yandell, Cayenne Yandell, Xanna Curry, Zyler Curry, and Isaiah Curry; extended family and many friends. Betty was preceded in death by one son, one brother, and her parents. A visitation will be held Sunday, April 24th, 2022, at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, with family receiving friends 5PM-7PM. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held 10AM Monday, April 25th, 2022, at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Gibson with Pastor Don Rhyne officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at 2:30PM in Talihina, Oklahoma at the Old Talihina Cemetery with Derrell Ward, Henry Dukes, III, Kevin Dukes, Jason Curry, Sean Gann, and Michael Tucker serving as casket bearers.
