Glenn Randall Haskins

July 21, 1924 - May 6, 2020

Glenn Randall Haskins, 95, of Fort Gibson, was born July 21, 1924 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Joseph and Rilla (Cottingham) Haskins and peacefully passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. Glenn graduated from high school and started working in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1942 and helped construct Camp Gruber. He then enlisted in the United States Navy in March of 1943. Glenn reached the rank of Gunners Mate First Class. He served on the LCS 65 during the capture and occupation of Okinawa, Japan. Glenn was awarded many medals and awards including the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (with 1 Bronze Star), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Taiwan Straits), Navy Good Conduct Medal (with 4 Bronze Stars), Korean Service Medal (with 2 Bronze Stars), National Defense Service Medal (with 1 Bronze Star), United Nations Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (with 1 Bronze Star), World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon – Foreign, Rep of Korea Presidential Unit Citation – Foreign, Honorable Service Lapel Button, Navy Honorable Discharge Button and China Service Medal. He retired with an honorable discharge in 1965. After retiring he started a commercial painting company. Glenn was a proud member of the VFW 4977. He loved betting on the horses and driving to the Cherokee Casino in Sallisaw to test his luck. Glenn also enjoyed visiting and hanging out with his buddies at 4 Mile Stop. In Glenn’s final hours, he was cared for by his loving nieces, Shirley Ann Cottingham and Sherri Lewis. Glenn is lovingly survived by his nieces, Shirley Ann Cottingham, Nancy Brown; nephews, Leroy Cottingham and Randy Glad, many great and great-great nieces and nephews, and a special great-great nephew Keatin Lewis. Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Paul Hue Haskins, Albert Haskins, Roland Cottingham, Omer Cottingham and Melvin Cottingham; sisters; Ruby Cottingham Newton, Vina Cottingham Martin, and Edith Cottingham Glad. A viewing will be held noon to 5:00PM Monday, May 11, 2020 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson. A graveside service will be held 10:00AM Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Holland Cemetery in Woodall, OK with Glenn’s family officiating.
