Helen Millie (Carman) Satterfield

October 21, 1939 - January 18, 2022

Helen Millie (Carman) Satterfield was born October 21, 1939 in Okay, Oklahoma to William A. and Virginia (Ford) Carman, and greeted Jesus and all the loved ones who had gone before her on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Helen's family moved to Fort Gibson when she was 2 years old, and she made her home there for the rest of her life. She graduated from Fort Gibson High School in 1957, and married the love of her life, Leon Satterfield, on November 6, 1958. She was a homemaker, but also worked as a commercial fisherman with her dad, and then her husband until the late 1970's. It was a heritage she was very proud of. Helen was a long-time member of the Frank Gladd Unit #20 American Legion Auxiliary in Fort Gibson. She was also a faithful member of New Life Assembly of God in Fort Gibson, where she had many dear friends. She enjoyed cooking, cookbooks, canning, giving to and helping others, and was well known for her God-given gift and ministry of sending cards to others that arrived at just the right time, and said just the right thing. Helen was a very talkative and friendly person who could talk to anyone and was known for her many amusing "old sayings". She also enjoyed keeping a daily journal, going to the Senior Center, hunting bargains, "rummage" sales, and was well known for writing dates on almost everything she bought. She maintained a sharp memory throughout most of her life. Preceding her in death were her parents, William A. and Virginia Carman, her husband Leon; brothers Jay Carman, John Carman, and George Carman; sisters Faye Cooper and Ruth Huitt, 3 infant siblings, and son-in-law, Bob Gillispie. She is survived by daughters, Karen Gillispie of Fort Gibson, and Georgia Wahl and husband David of Fort Gibson; grandchildren, Sean Ruark and wife Maghan of Piedmont, and Tabitha Kreilaus of Broken Arrow; great-grandchildren, Bo, Graham, and Sadie Ruark; special cousin, Jan Hester, and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. Viewing for Helen will be 10:00AM-7:00PM Tuesday, January 25, 2022 with family receiving friends from 5:00PM-7:00PM at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home, Fort Gibson. A service celebrating Helen’s life will be 12:30PM Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Community Gospel Center in Fort Gibson with Reverend Lonnie Orman officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Sean Ruark, David Wahl, Alan Cooper, Jerry Wayne Morrison, Cale Orman, and Billy Raines serving as casket bearers. Wayne Carman, Kenny Carman, Larry Huitt, and Leon "Shorty" Wills will serve as honorary casket bearers. She was a devoted wife, mother, and daughter who loved deeply, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to extend their deep thanks and appreciation to Helen's home health nurse, Catherine. Also, to Good Shepherd Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate service. Helen’s obituary was beautifully written by her family. The family of Helen Millie Satterfield has entrusted her care, services and burial to Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home, Fort Gibson. 918-478-2555.
