Johnny Joe Capps, ‘Papa’, 77, of Gore, OK was born April 13, 1944, in Hobart, OK to Joda Finus and Ethel Violene (Russell) Capps and peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at his home with his family by his bedside. Johnny received his formal education at Vian Schools and continued his education with an associate degree from Connors State College. On August 2, 1965, Johnny married his best friend, Erma Marie Hunt in Vian, OK. A marriage that stood the test of time of 56 years, seven months and 28 days. He joined the United States Army on June 4, 1962, to May 17, 1965, for his first enlistment. He then reenlisted August 20, 1968, and obtained the rank of E-5, Sergeant. He received an honorable discharge on August 19, 1971. Johnny started his career with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and retired in 2011 with 35 years of service. His hobbies included trapping, hunting, fishing, but most importantly was playing with his grandkids. Johnny’s legacy of devotion, faith and especially love will live on through his family. He will be missed by all that knew him. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Marcell Capps; grandsons, Drew Capps and James; great granddaughter, Kaylynn Capps; great grandson, Oliver Capps; his brothers, J.C. Capps, Jerry Capps, Jimmy Capps, Frank Capps; and a sister, Vilene Shaffer. Those left to cherish Johnny’s memory are his wife, Erma of the home; sons, Johnny Finus Capps and wife, Renella of Gore, OK; Mark Capps and wife, Betty of Lost City, OK; David Capps and wife, Christie of Muskogee, OK; daughter, Judy Treadwell and husband, Gerald of Gore, OK; 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and one on the way; his brothers, Donald Ray Capps and wife, Sandra of Allen, TX; Bill Capps and wife, Wynema of Welty, OK; sister in laws, Audrey Capps of New Boston, TX and Mary Capps of Harrah, OK; extended family and many friends. A visitation will be held Friday, April 1, 2022, at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson with the family receiving friends 5PM-7PM. Johnny’s funeral service is scheduled for 10AM Saturday, April 2, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gore, OK with Bishop Aaron Ellis officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Stevenson Cemetery in Gore, OK with Johnny Capps, Mark Capps, David Capps, Gerald Treadwell, Mac Capps and Jacob Capps serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers are Bill Capps, Donald Ray Capps, Montana Capps, Wade Treadwell and Blake Bass.
