Ruby Almeda Tarbutton

August 16, 1923 - July 24, 2021

Ruby Almeda Tarbutton was born in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma to Ernest and Alma O’Dell on August 16, 1923. She passed from this life on July 24, 2021 in Fort Gibson. Ruby was preceded in death by her father Ernest O’Dell, her mother Alma O’Dell, her husband Ray Pierce, her husband John Tarbutton, her sisters, Pearl Mounts, and Opal Gustus. She is survived by her sister, Diamond Franklin of Fort Gibson and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces. Ruby was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Ruby graduated from Fort Gibson High School in 1942. She worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for several retail businesses and retired from Kmart in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Ruby loved to sing and traveled throughout Oklahoma, Alabama, Arkansas, and Tennessee with her sisters Pearl and Opal singing gospel songs. Ruby loved creating interesting desserts and dishes. She lovingly shared those recipes with family members and friends. Those desserts and dishes are being carried on today. Ruby was an outstanding gamer. She excelled in bingo, dominos, and casino games. She could win in many situations and kept us all surprised with how good she was. Ruby lived a great life and shared so many experiences with all of us. We are her children. We celebrated life, holidays, birthdays, dinner dates, and anything else we could come up with. She was loving and helpful to all of us and will be greatly missed. Through our faith we will see her again. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends 5PM-7PM. Ruby’s celebration of life will be held 10AM Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Gibson with her Nephew Ernie Franklin and Reverend Bill Bailey officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at noon in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Ernie Franklin, Robbie Franklin, Nathan Franklin, Joe Paul Mounts, Ron McNear and Joe Cookson serving as casket bearers.
