Ima Dale Byfield

Ima Dale Byfield was born April 6, 1925, to Clarren G. and Mamie (Tackett) Wilson in Vian, OK and peacefully passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at her home in Fort Gibson. She lived in Fort Gibson for the last 81 years. She received her formal education at Fort Gibson Schools. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and creating picture albums. But, her loving trademark was her handwritten letters that she sent to many. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and cooking for them. She worked as a cashier and in sales for the Big J Department Store. Dale was a member of the Church of Christ her entire life, where she worked as their church secretary until 1991. She then worked from home, babysitting her grandchildren and the Hackworth children until 2006. While she was in her eighty’s she still participated in “camp ins” at the church and would spend the night helping chaperone the kids. Dale is lovingly survived by her daughter, Jean Cook and husband Ronnie; son, Billy Lee Byfield; grandsons, Steve Cook and wife Leslie; Gary Cook and wife Kelly all of Fort Gibson; granddaughters; Heather Byfield of Kentucky, Rachael Byfield of Bartlesville, and Barbara Travis of Wichita, KS; great-grandchildren, Tyler Cook and wife Samantha of Muskogee, Kacy Cook and wife Cortney, Kevin Cook and wife Ashton, Zane Cook and wife Abigail, and Kennedy Cook and wife Blayne, all of Fort Gibson, Madison Orman of Tulsa, Alexis Orman of Fort Gibson, and Savannah Dunn of Bartlesville; sixteen great-great grandchildren, brother-in-law James Watkins of Muskogee and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Byfield, her parents, Clarren G. and Mamie (Tackett) Wilson, brother, Clarren G. Wilson Jr. and wife Patricia; also, two sets of twin siblings and one sibling who all passed away at an early age; great-granddaughter Ashley Dunn, as well as, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 2PM-4PM with family greeting friends at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Muskogee, 1020 West Okmulgee, 918-910-8883. A celebration of life for Ima Dale Byfield will be held 10AM, Monday, August 28, 2023, at Fort Gibson Church of Christ with Grandson Gary Cook officiating. Kevin Cook, Kacy Cook, Kennedy Cook, Tyler Cook, Zane Cook, and Steve Cook will serve as casket bearers. Terry Hackworth, Jerry Bebee, Charles Dortch, Mike Shoemake, Nick Shoemake and Mike McDonough will serve as honorary casket bearers.
