Janet Lynn 'Worley' Thompson

Janet Lynn ‘Worley’ Thompson, 78, was born August 28, 1946 to Coy and Elnora (Benge) Worley in Muskogee, OK and passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024 in Muskogee, OK. She spent her life in Oklahoma, residing in Muskogee, Fort Gibson, and Okay. Janet graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree of science, and went on to complete a Master’s degree in teaching. This degree would allow her to pursue her passion and career, teaching. She taught kindergarten for 31 years at Fort Gibson Schools before retiring in 2001, loving and teaching many children in her time. Janet met and married the love of her life, Donald Thompson, on March 21, 1975 in Okay, OK. This marriage stood the test of time for 36 years and 10 days, until his death on March 31, 2011. She loved our Lord, and she loved to praise him, worshipping at Crescent Valley Baptist Church and First Freewill Baptist Church. Any downtime Janet had you could find her curled up with a good book. Janet’s love for teaching and her students was shown outside of the classroom, spending many evenings making crafts for her kindergarten class, always going the extra mile for her students. She was musically gifted, playing the organ exceptionally well. Janet loved her family fiercely, cherishing any time she spent with them. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, wisdom, and unconditional love. Janet will be missed by all. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Thompson; her parents, Coy and Elnora (Benge) Worley; her twin sister, Joyce Sterling; and her Granny B, Anna Lee Benge. Janet is lovingly survived by her daughters, Monica Thompson and husband Justin of Muskogee, OK, Joey Perry of Tulsa, OK and Debbie Robins and husband Michael of Tulsa, OK; her son, Russell Webber and wife Christina of Van Buren, AR; her granddaughters, Kyrie Munoz and Austin of Springfield, MO, Harley Handle of Muskogee, OK, and Kaysha Honeycutt of San Antonio, TX; her grandsons, Christopher Webber of Muldrow, OK, Nicolas Furner of Fort Smith, AR, Jean Patrick Perry of Tahlequah, OK, and Christian Perry of Tulsa, OK; her sister, Patricia Worley Orman of Fort Gibson, OK; and her brothers, Donny Worley and wife Mary of Ada, OK, and Claude (Stubby) Worley and wife Sandra of Midwest City, OK; many great grandchildren that she loved; extended family; and many friends. A celebration of Janet's life will be 1PM, Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Gibson with Pastor Tommy Honeycutt officiating. Committal prayers and inurnment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Randle Handle and Cody Butler serving as honorary urn bearers.
