Johnny Algernon O'Dell, Jr.

Johnny Algernon O’Dell, Jr., 87, a lifelong resident of Fort Gibson, OK was born June 26, 1936 to Johnny Algernon O’Dell Sr. and Cora Ethel (Luna) O’Dell and peacefully passed away July 24, 2023 at his home. After graduating Fort Gibson High School in 1954, Johnny joined the United States Army in November of 1957 and proudly served as an instrument and controls technician before being honorably discharged in November of 1959. He worked in Turkey for the Army as a civilian and taught electronics. On January 18, 1969 Johnny married the love of his life Miss Dorothy Jean ‘DJ’ Clark, and were happily married for over 54 years. He worked at OG&E for several years before retiring. Johnny invented the electronic movement for Christmas light displays that is visible at Honor Heights Park. He loved to read, travel, and enjoyed keeping up with the Stock Market. His greatest passion was being involved with any activity that his sons and grandkids were involved with. Johnny will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Pete O’Dell, and Jim O’Dell; sisters, Minnie Young, and Jackie O’Dell. Johnny is lovingly survived by his wife, D.J. of the home; sons, Mike O’Dell and wife Kim of Gonzales, LA, and Pat O’Dell and wife Ashley of Coweta; granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Aubrey O’Dell both of Gonzales, LA, Cora and Molly O’Dell of Coweta; grandson, Cole O’Dell of Coweta; brothers, Danny O’Dell and wife Melanie of Vian, Donald O’Dell and wife Kaye of Tulsa, and Stanley O’Dell of Fort Gibson; extended family; and many friends. In lieu of flowers, his family request memorial contributions in Johnny's name to Fellowship Bible Church Children Ministry Fund, 1411 E Poplar St., Fort Gibson, OK, 74434. Viewing will be Friday, July 28, 2023, 10AM-12:30PM at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Gibson. A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held 1PM, Friday, July 28, 2023 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Gibson with Brother Butch Cook and Pastor Don Blankenship officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Citizens Cemetery in Fort Gibson. Ben Harris, Alan O’Dell, Kyle O’Dell, Cameron O'Dell, Bryan O’Dell, and Cody Deatherage will serve as casket bearers.
