Kathalene Wells

Kathalene Wells, 85, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away on July 9th, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born on January 18, 1941, in rural McIntosh County, Oklahoma, Kathalene lived a life defined by love, laughter, and devotion to others. Kathalene dedicated more than 30 years to education, teaching children of all ages in the Checotah school system. Her impact on generations of students was evident in the many former pupils who would seek her out years later to share fond memories of their time in her classroom. In retirement, Kathalene found new joy alongside her husband of nearly 65 years, Paul, as they built a successful antique business together. She loved the thrill of a good “junking” adventure, searching yard sales and flea markets for hidden treasures. Working in antique malls brought her great happiness, allowing her to share stories, laughter, and her love for antiques with friends and customers alike. Affectionately known as “Mimi” by those who loved her most, Kathalene treasured time with her family above all else. She delighted in cooking for her loved ones and made it her mission to keep everyone supplied with their favorite treats, no matter how strange the request. She also enjoyed bringing family and friends together around the table for games and proudly taught three generations of loved ones how to play canasta. Kathalene was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Ruthey Myers; her brothers, Everett Myers, Lloyd Myers, Earl Myers, and Marvin Myers; and her sisters, Betty Acord, Rea Williams, and Margaret Turpin. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Paul Wells; her daughter, Kama Huffines, and son-in-law, Wendell, and their son, Connor, of Galveston, Texas; two granddaughters, Aymee Allen and her husband, Michael, and their children, Zachary, Jake, and Emily, of Grand Prairie, Texas; and Alisha Bailey and her husband, Billy, and their children, Brooklyn, Paiton, Rylan, and Adalyn, of Godley, Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Charlie Myers, of Jenks, Oklahoma, and her sister, Ima Jean Stone, of Council Hill, Oklahoma. The viewing is scheduled from 3 pm through 5 pm Tuesday, July 14th, at the Clifford D. Garrett Family Funeral Home, located at 1224 E Poplar Street, Fort Gibson. A Celebration of Life will follow on Wednesday, July 15th, from 4 pm through 6 pm at the Checotah Senior Activity Center, located at 611 N Broadway Street, Checotah. A private service will be held for Kathalene’s family. Serving as pallbearers are Danny Stone, Robert Stone, Art Stone, Mike Allen, Keith Ray, and Rodney Myers.
