Michael Fitzgerald "Mike" O'Dell

Michael Fitzgerald O’Dell, 58, was born August 9, 1965, in Muskogee, OK to Floyd and Margie (Byrd) O’Dell and passed away Monday, January 29, 2024, in Muskogee. Mike attended school in Fort Gibson where he graduated with the Class of 1983. Mike furthered his education in college, but becoming a firefighter for the City of Muskogee was his ultimate career. Starting as a Private, he was quickly promoted to Driver. His determination to become the best public servant and firefighter took him to Captain, on to Training Officer, and ending his career as Fire Chief. He retired in 2019 after 30 years of service. Never one to sit still, Mike took a position with the City of Muskogee as the Code Enforcement Officer, a job he really enjoyed. Mike was an avid golfer and enjoyed his time with friends. His life changed when his grandbaby, Harper, was born. Mike’s love was unconditional for both his family and his firefighter family, and that love knew no bounds. His legacy of devotion, loyalty, and passion to help others will never be forgotten and will live on through his family and brothers and sisters of the Muskogee Fire Department. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd O’Dell and Margie O’Dell Arnett; stepfather, Jim Arnett; brother, Floyd O’Dell II; stepbrother, Jimmy Arnett; uncles, Harold and Billy O’Dell, Don Byrd, and Paul Harper; aunts, Louise Venus, Marlene Bryan and Walter, Kathy Fulmer; niece, Heather O’Dell; Mamaw and Papaw O’Dell; and Grandma Harper. He is survived by his son, Josh O’Dell and Chelsea Skora and granddaughter, Harper O’Dell and Jaxson Thayer; Carol O'Dell, his forever best friend and former wife; sisters, Sandra Imel and husband Arlyn, Kristie Edwards and husband Eddie; brother, Mitchell O’Dell; step-sisters, Marcy Colley and husband Mark, Lori Miller, Michelle White, and Cindy Farr; nephews, Brandon O’Dell, Aidan and Parker Noblitt, Parker Edwards; niece, Ashton White and husband Levi and great-nephew, Statler; sister-in-law, Cydney Crossland O’Dell; uncles, Cloyd and Betty O'Dell, Charles and Linda Harper, Victor Harper; aunt, Ruth O’Dell; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Muskogee with the family receiving friends, 5PM-7PM. Committal prayers and interment will follow in the Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee, OK with Arlyn Imel, Eddie Edwards, Brandon O’Dell, Levi White, Jake Cox and Gordon Lee serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers are Scott Crow, Reggie Grant and all Muskogee Firemen, current and retired.
