Norma Lee Snyder

Norma Lee Snyder, 83, was born May 11, 1940, in Fort Smith, AR to Elmer Lee and Clemmie Jeweline (Scott) Snyder and peacefully passed away July 17, 2023, in Muskogee, OK with her loving family by her bedside. Norma received her education in Muskogee, graduating with the class of 1958 from Muskogee Central High School. Norma was a beauty operator for 42 years, which she enjoyed, but most of all she loved her family, as they were most important to her. She loved watching sports on TV and was an avid OU football fan. She had a passion for cooking and was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed feeding her family and fellow company. She loved animals and was always kind to any strays that would wander up. She loved to dance, especially the Jitterbug, and continued to dance until she couldn’t dance anymore. She enjoyed listening to country and gospel music. She was a huge Elvis Presley fan. Her high school friends still call her “Mrs. Twitty” because she went on two dates with Conway Twitty – she loved to tell that story and how she saw Elvis in concert. She dearly loved each and every one of her brothers and sisters. She always maintained close friendships with all of them. She really had a special bond with everyone in her family, but her son, Gary, was her whole world. When he was growing up she sacrificed everything to give him a good life, and in turn he sacrificed to give her everything she needed later in her life. They were best friends. She especially loved to watch Gary at the dirt track races and would be the loudest fan in the stands, yelling, “Go, go, baby, go!” Later in life, her granddaughter, Paige, came along and she thought she was just about it. Norma always said Paige was the light of her life. She was so proud of the great person Paige became. Norma also shared a very special relationship with her daughter-in-law, Amy, whom she loved and adored. The whole family loves to tell stories about how she would cook them food and bring it to them, whether they were just starting out in life, having to start over, or when they needed a momma if their parents couldn’t be there. Norma would even come and clean their home, gather their laundry and wash, dry, fold or even iron, then she would deliver it back to them. She would give you her last dollar, but you would never know it. On Sundays she would go over to her daddy Elmer’s house and would cook a feast for him and anyone who wanted to come over and eat. She was really an Angel living among us. Norma had the most kind, loving, generous and giving heart, she will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jimmy Wayne Snyder; sister, Jeanie Joyce Shed; sister-in-law, Karen Snyder; brothers-in-laws, Walter Weeks, Bill Miller, Jimmy Shed and Paul Edward Turley. Norma is lovingly survived by her son, Gary Snyder and wife, Amy of Muskogee, OK; granddaughter, Paige Snyder and wife, Sarah of Grand Canyon, AZ; brothers, Tom Snyder and wife, Betty of Muskogee, OK and Avery Snyder and wife, Janice of Fort Gibson, OK; sisters, Sharon Turley of Muskogee, OK, Kathy Miller of Sapulpa, OK, Denise Weeks of Muskogee, OK; nephews, Tommy Snyder, Jr. and wife, Yvette of Okay, OK, Jason Snyder and wife Jaime of Bixby, OK, Michael Shed of Muskogee, OK, Bryan Shed and wife, Erica of Stillwater, OK, Stephen Turley and wife, Nicole of Muskogee, OK, Paul Turley and wife, Ilona of Little Rock, AR and Ryan Weeks and wife, Windy of Muskogee, OK; nieces, Courtney Waggle and husband, Clay of Fort Gibson, OK, Tracy Parsons and husband, Danny of Muskogee, OK and Sarah Hoffman and husband, Joey of Jenks, OK, Kimberly Clark and husband, Joel of Tulsa, OK, and Kristi Spaethe and husband, Rob of Tulsa, OK; many other family relatives and many friends. Viewing will be held Friday, July 21, 2023, 12PM to 7PM with family receiving friends 5PM-7PM at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home and Crematory, Muskogee, OK. A celebration of Norma’s life will be 10AM Saturday, July 22, 2023, at First Freewill Baptist Church in Fort Gibson, OK with Reverend Jason Snyder and Reverend Tommy Honeycutt officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Muskogee, OK with Bill West, Brian Sells, Bryan Shed, Ryan Weeks, Clay Waggle and Cory Carter serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers are Michael Shed, Tommy Snyder, Jr., Stephen Turley, and Paul Turley.
