Owetta (Candy) Goad

Owetta (Candy) Goad, 91, of Muskogee, was born March 9, 1933 to James Candy and Nola Lee (Hammonds) Johnson in Braggs, OK and passed away Friday, August 16, 2024, in Muskogee, OK. Growing up in Braggs, she was the fourth of ten children. Owetta attended school in Braggs before moving to Muskogee to work at Camel Tire, as an assembly line worker. She was hardworking, and from a young age always wanted to do what it took to take care of her family. In later years, she loved to cook, making many meals for her family and friends. Owetta enjoyed watching sports; her favorite sport being baseball, specifically Cardinal baseball. If you caught her sitting down in her older years, she was probably watching a good ‘ol John Wayne Western. Owetta was an avid bowler, making many friendships through a shared love for bowling. She was most passionate about her family and her time spent with them, especially her great-grandchildren. She attended church at Chandler Road Church of Christ in Muskogee with her daughter, Annette. Owetta had a fiery and ornery spirit, but a heart of gold. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, selflessness, and unconditional love. Owetta will be missed by all. She is preceded in death by her son, David Goad; father, James Candy; parents, Everett and Nola (Hammonds) Johnson; brothers, Clarence Johnson, Elbert Johnson, Jr., Tom Johnson, J.D. Johnson, and William Johnson; sisters, Pauline Johnson Goble and Leveta Johnson McConnell. Owetta is lovingly survived by her daughter, Annette Swafford of Muskogee, OK; grandsons, Jesse Goad and Elicia Skelton of Muskogee, OK and Chad Fields of Muskogee, OK; great-granddaughters, Madison Fields of Pensacola, FL, Audrey Kay Fields of Muskogee, OK, Adalynn Grace Fields of Muskogee, OK, Lexi Royse and husband Triston of Muskogee, OK, Trinity Goad of Muskogee, OK, Birdee Goad of Miami, OK; great-grandsons, Cade Fields of Pensacola, FL and Mason Goad of Muskogee, OK; great-great-grandchildren, Michael Royse of Muskogee, OK and Delilah Durant of Muskogee, OK; sister, Carolyn Stricker of Gore, OK and brother, Roy Lee Johnson of Mesa, AZ; extended family; and many friends. A visitation will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Muskogee with the family receiving friends from 5PM-7PM. A celebration of Owetta’s life will be 10:00AM Friday, August 23, 2024, at Chandler Road Church of Christ in Muskogee with Minister Don Cherry officiating. Chad Fields, Jesse Goad, Tad Andrews, Gary Andrews, Brett Andrews, and Gary Cunningham will serve as casket bearers. Jerry Sims will serve as honorary casket bearer. Committal prayers and interment will follow at South Bethel Cemetery in Braggs, OK.
