Ruth Elizabeth Nobles

Ruth Elizabeth Nobles, 91, went to be with her heavenly father on January 8, 2026, after a well lived life. She was born in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma on December 2, 1934, to Sam and Martha “Annie” (Raines) Bowlin. She lived around the Fort Gibson area throughout her early life, graduating from Fort Gibson High School before beginning college at Bacone in Muskogee. Ruth transferred to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah where she met Jack Price, whom she later married in 1954. After Jack’s passing in 1958 she moved to Wichita, KS, to work as a legal secretary and met Truman Nobles through friends. Ruth married Truman in 1960 and, after having son Keith, relocated from Wichita back to the Muskogee area for several years before moving to Torrance, CA. After daughter Luanne was born, Ruth eventually returned to work as a secretary with a small company before joining Torrance Unified School District until her retirement in 1985. Retirement brought Ruth and Truman to Conway, AR for several years before moving back to northeastern Oklahoma (through many, many, many houses - 9 to be exact). Ruth supported many years of little league baseball and Indian Guides, soccer and Camp Fire girls for her children. During her years with young children of her own and not working outside of the home, she was the school contact for many neighbor families and watched their sick kids during the school day. She also dedicated time to the Baptist church serving on numerous committees, working in the nursery, teaching bible school and leading bible study. Ruth had the ability to make friends with all, and it wasn’t unusual for her to keep in contact with friends for over 50 years. Ruth loved to sew and could make anything asked of her, including prom, bridesmaid and wedding dresses. She even created her own patterns. She began sewing as a teenager to avoid hand-me-downs in a house of 5 girls. She continued sewing well into her 80’s, including Halloween costumes for grandchildren. She spent years making detailed Christmas stockings to share with family and dear friends. Ruth’s love of sewing didn’t stop her from enjoying a good thrift store. She could spend hours sifting through a shop to find that “one” thing. Her request for her 89th birthday was to spend a few hours in a local thrift store. Ruth enjoyed entertaining and was well known for having a stocked freezer, especially for the many unplanned teenagers hanging around her house on a Friday night. Retirement brought many years of the “holy huddle”, a large group of retirees from the Baptist church who kept her busy socially. Ruth loved to travel and was proud of visiting 48 states in her lifetime. Most trips across the country were road trips. While working and raising a family, many weekends were spent camping or staying at the cabin in Joshua Tree. After retirement, the RV and camping club were favorites. Before health issues necessitated her move to a nursing home in Plano, TX, Ruth resided at the Baptist Village Independent Living facility in Madill, OK, for 4 years. She enjoyed making many friends, involving herself in activities and having fun with all. She is survived by son, Keith and wife Claire Nobles of Cheyenne, Wyoming; daughter, Luanne and husband Chad Miller of Plano, Texas; granddaughters, Eliza Nobles and Jade Miller; sister, Blanche and husband Dan Reece of Fort Gibson; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends. Ruth was preceded in death by husband, Jack; husband, Truman; her parents, Sam and Annie; brothers, Allen (Cecelia) Bowlin and Anthony (Lillian) Bowlin; sisters, Ruby (Frank) Conant, Mary Darlene, Eunice (J.C.) Hamilton, and Joyce (Leon) Ogles. Her family and her faith were the most important things in her life, and she shared them graciously throughout her life. A celebration of Ruth's life will be 9AM, Friday, January 16, 2026, at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Gibson with Pastor Tim Ohls officiating and Matthew Wood eulogizing. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
