Stephen Lee 'Steve' Dixon

Stephen Lee ‘Steve’ Dixon of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on April 21, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Steve was the son of Alexander Hale and Mary Sue (Mosley) Dixon. Steve graduated from Pauls Valley High School and pursued higher education at Oklahoma Baptist University. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps earning an honorable discharge from active duty only to continue serving in the National Guard during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1973. On August 24, 1968, Steve began a 58-year journey with the love of his life, Sharon Wolfe of Pauls Valley. Throughout their life, Steve and Sharon resided in Enid, Oklahoma; Texarkana and Fort Worth, Texas; Richmond, Virginia and lastly, here in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma for the past 25 years where they were known as “Mom” and “Papa Bear” to many young people they nurtured as a part of their campus ministry. In his youth, Steve gave his life to Christ Jesus his Lord and Savior, at Falls Creek Church Camp. A man of deep Christian faith, he found immense joy in studying, teaching, mentoring and we can’t omit, witnessing. Whether you were the waitress at the local restaurant or the cashier at the Quick Trip you were going to hear about God’s plan for your life shared in a dry humor that only he could pull off. Steve was a devoted member of the "Fellowship Bible Church” in Fort Gibson and felt it his personal responsibility to share his love for the Lord with all of his church family. Steve was loyal to his career with “Simplex” having been employed for 25 years. He retired as the regional manager in 2003. In his retirement years, Steve enjoyed diving into God’s word and American History books, fishing, road trips and supporting the Oklahoma Sooners football every chance he had. Above all other leisure activities, his greatest passion was spending time with his family and creating cherished memories with his children and grandchildren where he was sure to take any opportunity for interjecting his “words of wisdom” into your personal life. Steve is now reunited with his parents, Alexander Hale and Mary Sue Dixon; son-in-law, Fred Wingate; along with numerous Aunts and Uncles. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon Dixon of the home; brother, David Dixon; brother-in-law, Billy Mac Wolfe; children, Bryan Dixon, Brent Dixon (Susan), Stephanie Dixon, and Cindy Wingate; grandchildren, Skye Reed (Coner), Scout Dixon, Saige Dixon, Cody Dixon, Camden Dixon, Reece Dixon, and Zeke Dixon; great grandchildren, Caden Reed and Spencer Reed; along with many Brothers and Sisters in Christ. A Celebration of life will be held in Steve’s memory on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 11:00AM located at the “Fellowship Bible Church” 1411 E Poplar Street, Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, 74434 with Reverend Steve Dennis officiating. Committal prayers and inurnment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with military honors being observed.
