William David Gordon

William David Gordon, known to all who loved him simply as David, was born on December 13, 1943, in Washington, D.C., to James and Lilly Gordon. He entered this world in the heart of the nation's capital, and he would go on to serve that nation with pride. David was 82 years old when he passed from this life on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Inola, Oklahoma, surrounded by the peace of a life well lived. He served in the United States Army, and it was a calling he embraced with his whole heart. David loved the Army. He thrived in it. By those who knew him best, it is said that he would have made it his life's work had circumstances not redirected his path because the only thing David Gordon loved more than the Army was his family. And that is exactly the kind of man he was. David was a man of remarkable vitality and spirit. He could do just about anything, and he usually did. Whether it was water skiing, snow skiing, jet skiing, or jet boating, if there was an adventure to be had, David was at the front of it, grinning wide and making it look easy. He lived with enthusiasm and approached every new challenge as an opportunity. He was also a man of the outdoors and the open air. David loved to camp, in the early years with a tent, and eventually graduating to a camper, but always with that same love of gathering under the sky with the people he cared about. Some of life's best memories were made around those campsites. And then there was the yard. David's front yard was something to behold. Meticulously kept, beautifully maintained, and admired by every neighbor who passed by. It was a point of quiet pride. A small but meaningful way David made the world around him a little more beautiful. He was a man who could fix what was broken, build what was needed, and improve whatever he touched. His hands were capable hands, and his heart was a generous one. David Gordon lived a full life. He served well. He loved deeply. And the world is quieter without him in it. David is preceded in death by his parents, and his son Jeff Gordon. David is survived by those who loved him deeply, his wife, Colleen of the home, son, Rick Rueb and wife, Marty of Tulsa; grandsons, Alex Gordon of Broken Arrow, Austin Gordon of Broken Arrow, R Vincent Rueb of Tulsa, and R Chandler Rueb of Tulsa; granddaughter, Ryann Wendland and husband Colton of Tulsa; great grandson, Cash Gordon of Broken Arrow; brother and sister in law, Bob and wife Maureen Hemmert of Broken Arrow; and extended family. They will carry his memory forward with gratitude and with joy. Funeral Services for David will be 2:30 PM Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery Pavilion, Fort Gibson, OK with the Frank Glad American Legion Post #20 rendering full Military Honors and Brother Justin Kinman officiating.
